Breast Investigators Spotlight on Amy Tuten

Can a cocktail really help to create a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays? Amy Tuten sure hopes so, and she is gathering others to raise a glass and the fundraising bar to help her try.

When Amy first decided to walk in the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k walk, it wasn’t a difficult decision. The fact that it was a local event was definitely a plus. But also, Amy had witnessed her stepmother’s 20 year battle with breast cancer and knew firsthand about the important services the American Cancer Society provides. The fact that fundraising dollars stay local has kept her committed and involved. Since her involvement began four years ago, Amy has been Sponsor Chair, Media Chair, and now Co-Chair for this annual event. As Senior Marketing Consultant for ABC 7, her time and talents are invaluable to this major event that drew in over 8,000 walkers in 2009.

Last year, Amy asked a group of her friends to walk with her and they formed Team ACS (American Cocktail Society). This ambitious group of fundraisers hosts monthly cocktail parties at various locations around town that combine networking, socializing, and fundraising all for a great cause! The parties have been a great success and have raised the bar for MSABC team fundraising, inspiring other teams to seek unique and effective ways to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Team ACS was the number one fundraising team for the Sarasota/Manatee MSABC last year, raising $14,233. This year, inspired by the recent breast cancer diagnosisis among two of their 18 team members, they are even more passionate about this cause and have already raised $16,000 with one more cocktail party to go.
Their Final Cocktail Party will be held tonight, Tuesday, October 19th, at the Ritz-Carlton Ca D’Zan Lounge in Sarasota from 5:30pm – 8:00pm.

Come and support Team ACS and the American Cancer Society/Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and have a cocktail to help end breast cancer.
