Courage Through a Lens - A breast cancer journey

Upon being diagnosed with breast cancer, professional photographer, Kiki van de Laar, found herself searching for photos of what it’s like to go through breast cancer treatment. Apart from photos of mastectomies and reconstructions, she found very little to help her visualize what lie ahead. So she decided to aim her camera at herself in her fight against breast cancer, taking the camera with her to every scan, appointment, test, hospital visit, surgery, chemo and radiation treatment. The result – powerful and telling images – a photo book to reduce the fear of the unknown for those facing breast cancer. While goal #1 in writing this book is to help other diagnosed with breast cancer to overcome their fear and to encourage them to keep fighting, smiling, and celebrating life, the second and equally important goal is to raise money for breast cancer research. Fifty percent of the proceeds from her book will be donated to breast cancer research. This is an incredibly unique book and we are incredibly fortunate that Kiki has offered to give one copy away free to someone in our Breast Investigators community.
