From Milk Production to Metastasis

A mammalian milk-producing protein is thought to play an important role in facilitating metastasis of breast cancer to the lungs. In the presence of a tumor, the protein was observed to recruit immune cells to surround the area and encourage the growth of new blood vessels, new vessels that can allow cancer cells to escape into the blood and then the lungs. It is also thought that this protein causes breast cancer to switch to a more aggressive and less estrogen-sensitive cancer. Read more about it here.
