My Hope Chest

My Hope Chest;  a 501c3 Non-profit organization was founded in the fall of 2003 by Alisa Savoretti, who was a breast cancer survivor and Las Vegas Showgirl. At the time of her diagnosis she was 38 years old and had no insurance. She had a mastectomy and returned to the stage just 5 months after finishing chemo.  She billed herself as the “Lop-sided Showgirl”.  It took 3 years before she was able to have reconstruction surgery, and realized then that there was a huge gap in treatment that existed for uninsured women.
Alisa never questioned why she got cancer, she believed that she was destined to start My Hope Chest to help others.  She thought with all the breast cancer fundraising and awareness that was out there it would be easy to get support and funding for this program… she was mistaken. While the awareness for the disease was high, awareness for this aspect of treatment was not – and those who did donate, did so thinking their money was covering all aspects of care… and it wasn’t.
With help from the National Association of Women Business Owners, (NAWBO) she formed My Hope Chest, which is the only National breast reconstruction organization working to help uninsured and under-insured women heal completely.
They estimate that although breast cancer is the most heavily funded cause in America, that in the last 10 years approximately 220,000 women go without reconstruction surgery after their diagnosis and subsequent mastectomies.  My Hope Chest has changed lives and is diligent to continue their mission to help more survivors heal every year.
