Preventing Breast Cancer Cells from Entering Bone Marrow

Our worst fear as breast cancer survivors is the fear of a recurrence, especially in the form of metastatic disease. Thankfully, scientists are making important progress in preventing breast cancer cells from entering and hiding out in the bone marrow. In mice, their experimental approach has successfully evicted hidden breast cancer cells from bone marrow, back into the bloodstream where the immune system, chemotherapy, and/or hormonal therapy can kill them off.
