Survivors In Sync Gears Up for First Dragon Boat Race

Survivors In Sync (SIS), Sarasota’s newly formed breast cancer survivor (BCS) dragon boat team, will participate in their first race as a team on March 29th, 2014 at the Bradenton Dragon Boat Festival. The event will take place at the Regatta Landing at Riverwalk from 9am to 5pm. We will be joined by: The Pink Dragon Ladies of Tampa Bay, Save Our Sisters of Miami, and Missin’ Mammaries of Punta Gorda. We hope the community will come to the event and learn what BCS dragon boating is all about as we get geared up for the upcoming 2014 IBCPC Participatory Dragon Boat Festival, to be held at Nathan Benderson Park October 24-26th.

Our team is looking forward to our debut! We have spent the past few months practicing and are ready to try our paddles out as a team. We have been taken under the wings of the Tampa Pink Dragon Ladies and have been fortunate to have experienced dragon boat paddlers and coaches share their time and knowledge with us. One of those coaches is Kathy Levy, a part-time Sarasota resident and coach of Hamilton, Canada’s BCS dragon boat team, Knot A breast since 1998. When Kathy is in town, you will find her at our practices helping us steer the way.

We are still looking for team members. If you would like more information about Survivors In Sync, visit our team website at and please Like us Facebook page at
