Upcoming National Breast Center Conference

The 21st Annual National Interdisciplinary Breast Center Conference (NCoBC) will be held March 12-16 2011 in Las Vegas. This is the one breast conference with educational sessions targeted to Radiology Technologists, Nurses/Administrators, and Physicians which include Radiologists, Surgeons, Pathologists, and Oncologists. The program is jam packed with expert speakers that will present on topics that are of relevance in the quality management of breast health.
One of the more exciting panel sessions that will be held this year include discussion with Dr. Ned Calonge, MD, chairman of the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF). This task force helped to craft the new screening mammogram guidelines which were met with controversy last year. Dr. Calonge has accepted an invitation to address this group to discuss the current evidenced based role of screening mammography and its role in breast cancer prevention.
Along with the great educational sessions there will be breakout sessions, networking opportunities, new technology and products exhibited and scientific exhibits and posters. I attend the conference for the reasons listed above and because it has a dedicated focus to support the role of navigation in breast health. Breast health navigation is a relatively new field and I get to hear the leaders in this field share their knowledge. I can then bring back what I learn and share it with our community.
